This autoimmune disease is due to destruction of the myelin sheath, the membrane that surrounds the extensions of certain neurons, and whose alteration hinders nerve conduction of the brain to the body.
The condition of the transmission of nerve impulses resulting in different types of symptoms, according to the area demyelinated brain: motor (muscle weakness, difficulty of motor), sensory (decreased sensitivity of body parts, numbness, tingling ), visual (acuity, double vision), cognitive (impaired memory, attention abilities), urinary, coordination and balance.
According to the evolution of multiple sclerosis, there are three forms: relapsing remitting (first phase of the disease that evolves in spurts interspersed with periods of remission), secondary progressive (this form appears after a decade of changes in approximately 50% of patients) and progressive from the outset (usually appearing in people over 40 years with symptoms progressing in a few months).
