Eye Laser and other modern methods

Already around the year 1000, an Arab scholar, had the idea to support the eye using optical lenses. In 1240 monks put this idea into practice - the birth of the glasses. For centuries it was the only way to correct vision problems to. But in recent years, they got competition.

With plastic eyeglasses and contact lenses can be anomalies of the refractive power of the eyes to compensate for - short-and long-sightedness and astigmatism (astigmatism) as a result of astigmatism. Similar to a prosthetic arm or leg at these tools allow for a more or less normal function - but only for the wear. For some years there is also the possibility of using various surgical procedures to correct refractive error permanently. This branch of ophthalmology is known as "refractive surgery".

The advantage of requiring no annoying after surgery aids more, there are also disadvantages and risks. A thorough investigation, good advice and the careful balancing of all the points are therefore essential before deciding on surgery. However, in recent years of refractive surgery procedures increased massively - the world's laser treatments were performed on the eye now approximately 50 million times and become one of the most common operations in general. This means that the experience of numerous methods and tools are mature and what the individual risk assessment and intervention facilitated a total of more secure.

Prosthetic arms are nowhere close to restoring normal function. This misperception is a serious problem in the media: http://openprosthetics.ning.com/profiles/blogs/the-six-million-dollar-meme
