Hepatitis: inform and track to heal
The 3rd National Hepatitis Day will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008 around three major issues: informing (one patient on two unknown illness), reassurance (do not be afraid of testing because it heals very often) and address (if hepatitis C, 80% of patients cured). We interviewed Professor Jean-Pierre Zarski * on the role of alcohol in hepatitis B and C, and virus transmission.
National Plan Anti-hepatitis B and C
Hepatitis: to detect deal!
Blood transfusion: remember to give your blood!
Alcohol can influence the occurrence of hepatitis?
Pr Zarski: A prolonged and excessive consumption of alcohol may cause the development of acute alcoholic hepatitis that can progress to cirrhosis or liver cancer. But today, in most cases of hepatitis are viral: hepatitis B or hepatitis C.
People with chronic hepatitis (either viral or not) should know that alcohol consumed chronically exacerbates all liver diseases.
The point about liver cancer
Hepatitis B: do you detect, can the "stop"!
Hepatitis B: worse than AIDS
Alcohol influence does the treatment of hepatitis?
Pr Zarski: Treatment of hepatitis does not require a special diet. Only recommendations: excessive consumption of alcohol is strongly discouraged, and dietary advice are possible if one is overweight. Chronic consumption of alcohol reduces the chances of therapeutic success, but men can drink 3 glasses or 30g/jour and women 20g/jour or 2 glasses. Attention in case of cirrhosis, alcohol is completely eliminated.
Furthermore, it is better to stop smoking and taking certain medications (apart from those specific treatment against hepatitis) should be done only on medical advice. Some drugs are cons-indicated in cases of chronic hepatitis.
